Uni. That place thousands flock to every year, with the ambiguity surrounding their time there at an all time high. Stories of drunken antics stemming from this new found freedom get filtered down via social media, and the anticipation to start your own adventure soars as soon as you see your UCAS form change.
What is it really like though? As a student at a University in the Midlands studying Business Management, I can tell you it's not just 'getting smashed'. Whilst I sometime wish that was true, there's a lot of work that needs to be done too.
Rocking up in September the fear of being the student with the least intelligence or experience is a daunting thought, and for the first term you'll probably feel as though that it is you. BUT don't worry by the second term people begin to express themselves in real time, without trying to exert all their knowledge to you just to 'impress'. It does sometimes make you doubt yourself as to 'is this the course for me?' But seriously stick at it, if you want to pursue it you can do it!
Moving into halls? That is an experience in itself. The range of people you meet is flabbergasting and the experiences you have are sometimes indescribable, certainly some that would never occur at home! Drugs, Pregnancy and of course the dreaded fire alarm (if you do set it off, you will be hated) are all common topics. Whilst your probably revelling thinking 'Nooooo why did I pick halls?', trust me you've done the right thing. Those aspects of halls are there but you don't have to be involved if you don't want to be! There are lovely 'normal' people too who you can bond with and by living in halls you get to meet so many nice people, it's an experience you won't forget in a hurry.
Any questions, drop a comment! And this is the first blog I've ever done so any advice would also be appreciated.
Over and Out x
